The Calgary Section of SPE provides a wide variety of activities and programs to our membership. To carry out this
endeavor, we have a number of opportunities for members looking to get involved as volunteers (using the form AT
RIGHT). Opportunities include:
School Presentations
A great way to give back to the School system within Calgary. APEGGA has requested if some of the SPE Members would be willing to assist in their upcoming National Engineering and Geosciences Week at an event on:
Elementary Science Nights Tuesday, February 27, 6-8 p.m., Our Lady of Fatima School (N.E. Calgary)
Judges Needed APEGGA is looking for 10 Judges to assist on 12 hands on activities and here is an opportunity for our SPE/APEGGA Members can network and help out a worthy cause and promote the SPE to students while they take on projects within the science and technology realm of engineering. The Volunteers need to commit to one evening from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. for set up, judging, assisting and tear down.

Standing Technical Group
This Group is being organized to plan for future Technical Discussions and Conferences. The group will meet
occasionally throughout the year. The idea is to bring together the great minds of the oil and gas industry both
experienced and fresh to establish ideas for technical agendas. A great mind is one that contributes to the future.
Conferences and Symposia
Assistance is required in organizing conferences. Through one of these committees you have an opportunity to be
involved in various technical and administrative roles including conference topic identification, technical paper solicitation,
and various conference administration roles.
Continuing Education
Assistance is required in identification and organization of relevant industry related short courses and seminars. Activities
include identification of prospective course topics and instructors (both local and international), logistics and
administration of course programs.
Luncheon Program
Assistance is required in identifying local and international luncheon speakers, and providing logistical and administrative
assistance in carrying out our monthly luncheon program.
Sponsorship
Assistance is required on the sponsorship committee to solicit corporate donations in support of the Calgary Section
programs and student scholarship endowment fund.
Student Activities/Awards
Assistance is required in liaising with various post secondary institutions in support of Student Chapter programs and our
scholarship program
Identification of prospective industry members and non-members for SPE Section and International awards, including
preparation of award nomination submissions.
Social
Assistance is required in identifying and arranging appropriate social functions for the Calgary Section membership.
