Run for The Future Half Marathon FAQs

    +Is this race a "certified" race?

    Yes, the Half Marathon course is certified.
    The race committee is considering to certify the 5 Miler but it will depend on sponsorship levels and the interest in this event. We are dedicated to donating the best value to the Scholarship Fund and must consider all expenditures seriously. If you have any thoughts drop us an email at runforthefuture@spemail.org

    + How many water/aid stations are on the race route?

    There are 5 aid stations that will provide water (no sports drinks) only equipped with a toilet. As well, each station is manned by 3 volunteers, with a minimum of one (1) who will be First Aid Certified and have a two-way radio. Each of the aid station volunteers will also fully aware of the Emergency Response Plan.

    + When can I pick-up my race package?

    + What is the course terrain like?

    The race route is very flat and 98% of it will be on the City of Calgary Pathways.
    The 5 Miler course overlaps the Half Marathon route.

    + Are the distances marked along the race route?

    Yes, the distances are clearly and frequently marked along the route.

    + What is the maximum number of runners you are permitting to participate?

    The run has a cap of 500 for the Half Marathon and 500 for the 5 Miler.

    + Will there be any "Pace Bunnies"?

    No.

    + Will the race be timed and if so, will electronic timing chips be used?

    Yes, there will be an official Start Line and Finish Line. For the first time in race history we will be going to CHIP Timing thanks to Crape Geomatics.

    + Where can I pick-up a race application?

    Paper copies of the race application are available at Gord's Running Store, 919 Centre St. NW as well as other fitness locations in the downtown core.

    Runners can also apply on line at http://www.eventsonline.ca/events/spe/ or print a PDF copy from this website.

    + What time does the race start? How long is the course open and supported?

    The Half Marathon race will start promptly at 7:30 a.m. on May 27, 2006. The 5 Miler will start at 8:00 am. Both races start at the same location which is on the corner of Riverfront Ave and Macleod Trail SE. The race course is only open for 3 hrs until 10:30 am.

    + Do you have to be an SPE member to run in the race?

    No. All interested runners are welcome to participate,

    + Do you have to be an SPE member to volunteer?

    No. We welcome all volunteers. For those who are interested, apply online please send a note to our email address at runforthefuture@spemail.org and please let us know in what capacity you would like to volunteer and please don't forget to give us your contact information

    + What if I get injured and cannot run the race?

    Sorry, there will be no refunds and your registration fee will be considered to be a donation to the SPE Scholarship Fund. We can however issue you a charitable tax receipt under CCRA rules. Receipts will only be issued by request only by sending a email to runforthefuture@spemail.org with the heading marked "TREASURER"

    + Can I switch events?

    In the event of a injury ONLY, registrants of the Half Marathon may transfer their registration to the 5 Miler, room permitting. However, there will be no refund for switching events. Due to administration issues, we cannot move you from the 5 Miler to the Half Marathon. Please send us an email to runforthefuture@spemail.org if you wish to do so. We cannot change anything after Wed, May 24. Sorry.
