Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Mission Statement

To collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.

Since our run's inception in May 2003, SPE Run for the Future Half Marathon raised $32,000 towards Education Scholarships.

In 2005, SPECA donated:

  • $ 10,000 to Universities and Colleges to support field trips and student development
Universities of Calgary, Alberta, Regina and Saskatchewan

Red Deer College

  • Scholarships are open to anyone pursuing a career in the Oil and Gas industry
Andrew Bennett, recent benficiary

A Recent Beneficiary: Andrew Bennett

Andrew graduated from the University of Alberta in 2002, with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. During Andrew's final school year he received the 2001/2002 University of Alberta Undergraduate Scholarship provided by the Canadian section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

After graduating, he moved to Calgary to enter the oil & gas industry, and began volunteering with the SPE. He is now one of the many volunteers that has helped make the SPE Run for the Future a success year after year. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 years Andrew volunteered on race days, and for 2006 Andrew has become more active and joined the SPE Run for the Future organizing committee. Andrew is motivated to make the SPE Run for the Future and the SPE Canadian Scholarship Fund a success so that other students in the area of petroleum engineering can also receive scholarship support for their studies.
