Our Volunteers

The SPE Run for the Future is the success it is because of the volunteers that help out before, during, and after race day. Our volunteers include those on the organizing committee, that serve year-round, and the families and individuals that help out on race day.

Our runs are able to enlist high numbers of volunteers each year. In fact, we have been able to average a ratio of one volunteer for every three runners. This draws positive (even rave) comments from the runners, which makes this an enjoyable race for all. Volunteers have a key role from race package pick-up right to the finish line, helping runners get the most out of this race.

We have a very strong repeat volunteer base but as the run grows, we have opportunities for new people each year, who can learn about the many details of running a successful race event. A comment from a new volunteer with us says it all: "as a first time volunteer for this event, it was wonderful to be involved."

Each year, we try to match our volunteers to their requests and interests. We have a large variety of functions, each with their unique duties and challenges. Some help with the pre-race package pick-up and registrations. Others start early on race day, well before sun-up, to set up signs and equipment along the race course. The bulk of the volunteers help out at the Start / Finish line and along the course as Marshals and as Aid Station personnel. We also have people leading our runners through the course (not running!) as well as following them, to make sure everyone makes it back safely to the finish line. And lastly, we have volunteers at the Race Venue that assist before and after the race.

We need volunteers for

Start/Finish Line - help get our runners started and finished

Aid Stations - supply our runners with water and encouragement. Why not get a corporate group of 4-5 people and bring out your company banner?

Course Marshals - supply the runners with direction and encouragement as they travel through the downtown pathways.

Venue Volunteers - help out with volunteer registration, pre and post-race assistance for our runners

So, please drop us a note at runforthefuture@spemail.org and tell us how you can help on Saturday May 27, 2006.

Hope to see you on Saturday May 27, 2006.
